International Polar Year

So did anyone know that March is the beginning of International Polar Year? Does anyone actually know what it is about?
The International Polar Year is a large scientific program focused on the Arctic and the Antarctic that runs from March 2007 to March 2009. I guess it should actually be Polar Years?
